In Noakhali’s Chatkhil Upazila, police recovered the body of a 13-year-old mentally disabled child named Arif Hossain three days after he went missing.
On Monday (July 14), around noon, police retrieved the body from a canal near Megha Bazar in Badalkot Union. Earlier that morning, around 7:00 AM, locals spotted the child’s body floating in the canal in front of the Kalamia Patowari house and informed the police.
The deceased, Arif Hossain, was the son of Jamal Hossain and Amena Akter Akhi from Purba Parkot in Parkot Union, Chatkhil Upazila.
According to local sources and police, Arif, who was mentally disabled, often wandered away from home and sometimes did not return at night. On Friday (July 11), he left home in the afternoon and did not return. Despite extensive searches by his family, they were unable to locate him.
Noakhali’s Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations), Mohammad Ibrahim, told Dhaka Post that he visited the scene after receiving the information. No signs of injury were found on the child’s body. It is suspected that Arif may have fallen into the canal and drowned. The family has not filed any complaints against anyone. The body has been sent to the morgue of Noakhali 250-Bed General Hospital for an autopsy. Legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway.
