Police have arrested a father in Monkhali village, Ukhiya Upazila, Cox’s Bazar, on charges of killing his four-year-old daughter and disposing of her body in a canal. The incident occurred around 9 PM on Saturday in Konarpara, Monkhali.
At around 10 PM on Saturday, police recovered the body of the child, Kaniz Fatema, from the canal and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The child’s mother, Josna Akhtar, filed a murder case against her husband, Aman Ullah (33), late Saturday night. Police subsequently arrested the father.
Confirming the incident, Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Arif Hossain told Prothom Alo that Aman is a drug addict. During an argument with his wife, he allegedly killed his four-year-old daughter by striking her head with a hammer and an iron rod. He then dumped her body in a nearby canal. Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene, arrested Aman, and recovered the body based on his information. The child’s body showed visible injury marks on her head and body. On Sunday morning, Aman was sent to the Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Court and will be transferred to jail from there.
The child’s mother, Josna Akhtar, stated that her husband regularly consumed drugs and had previously served jail time for drug-related offenses. She lived in constant fear for her children’s safety.
Inani Police Outpost In-Charge (Sub-Inspector) Durjoy Sarkar said that after dumping his daughter’s body in the canal, Aman was hiding under a bed at home. After an extensive search, police apprehended him.
