Khulna, July 11, 2025: Molla Mahbubur Rahman, a former leader of the Jubo Dal’s Daulatpur Thana unit, was brutally shot and killed by unidentified assailants in Khulna’s Daulatpur area. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in front of his residence in Maheshwarpasha West Para. To ensure his death, the attackers also hacked him and severed the tendons in his leg. The incident has been confirmed by Daulatpur Thana’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Mir Atahar Ali.
Molla Mahbubur Rahman previously served as the vice-president of the Daulatpur Thana Jubo Dal. On February 18, a photo of him wielding a machete during a clash with students at KUET went viral, leading to his expulsion from the organization that same night. Despite his expulsion, he continued to participate in party activities regularly. Eyewitnesses reported that on Friday afternoon, Mahbub was cleaning his private car in front of his house when three individuals on a motorcycle approached. They opened fire, shooting him multiple times. As he fell, the assailants hacked him with sharp weapons and cut the tendons in his leg to ensure his death. Local residents stated that Mahbub had become increasingly reckless in the area after August 5, reportedly engaging in disputes with another group over drug trafficking. He had faced attacks prior to this incident due to these conflicts. OC Mir Atahar Ali confirmed that Mahbub had ongoing disputes with a rival group over drug trafficking, which may have led to the attack. Police recovered four bullet casings from the scene, and an operation to apprehend the assailants is underway.Friday, July 11, 2025
