Three of a Family, Including Child, Injured in Gas Leak Explosion in Jatrabari

In a tragic incident in Dhaka’s Jatrabari, a gas leak explosion injured three members of a family, including a child, early Thursday, July 10, 2025. The victims, Ripon (40), his wife Eti (30), and their three-year-old daughter Rafia, were admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute for treatment.

The explosion occurred around 1:45 AM at the ground floor of a six-story building in the Khadimul Quran Women’s Madrasha alley on Shahid Faruk Road, Jatrabari. A neighbor, Taslima Moni, who helped transport the victims to the hospital, recounted hearing a loud blast followed by screams from the house. She rushed to the scene and found the three victims severely burned, with doors and windows shattered. They were immediately rescued and taken to the hospital.

Moni stated that the explosion likely occurred due to accumulated gas from a leak, ignited by a mosquito coil. Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the Burn Institute’s emergency department, reported that Ripon sustained burns to 70% of his body, Eti to 45%, and Rafia to 90%. All three are in critical condition.
