The arrests were announced in a press release by RAB-2 on Friday. Senior Assistant Director of RAB-2’s media wing, Khan Asif Tapu, later confirmed the information.
The other three arrested individuals are Md. Guddu (38), Shafiqul Islam (48), and Md. Selim (32).
According to RAB, the arrested individuals face cases filed in Mohammadpur, Adabor, and Tejgaon police stations. Khan Asif Tapu told Prothom Alo that Shahin was an aspirant for a position in Jubo League and was primarily known as an associate of Mohammadpur’s former commissioner Rajib and terrorist Yousuf. During the movement, Shahin attempted to kill students, and the other three accused were also involved in similar attempts.
The RAB press release stated that Shahin and Selim face cases in Mohammadpur, Guddu in Adabor, and Shafiqul in Tejgaon police stations for attempting to murder students during the anti-discrimination movement. The accused had been under intelligence surveillance for a long time. As part of this operation, they were arrested on Wednesday from Mohammadpur and Tejgaon industrial areas. Initial interrogations revealed that the accused were directly or indirectly involved in various activities aimed at destabilizing the government recently. RAB is analyzing their statements and continuing efforts to arrest others involved.
