In Gopalganj, the curfew imposed following violence, clashes, and fatalities during a rally by the National Citizen Party (NCP) has been extended by an additional 10 hours after a 14-hour relaxation period. The announcement was made in a press release issued by the District Magistrate’s media cell on Saturday (July 19).
According to the press release, the ongoing curfew in Gopalganj has been extended from 8:00 PM on Saturday (July 19) to 6:00 AM on Sunday (July 20).
Earlier, on July 16, members of the banned Chhatra League and Awami League attacked a march organized by the NCP. The day-long violence and clashes resulted in the deaths of four individuals. Subsequently, a curfew was imposed from 8:00 PM on July 16 until 6:00 PM on Thursday (July 17).
In the second phase, the curfew was extended from 6:00 PM on Thursday (July 17) to 11:00 AM on Friday (July 18). After a three-hour break, the curfew was reimposed from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday. Later, the curfew was extended from 6:00 PM on Friday to 6:00 AM on Saturday, followed by a 14-hour relaxation period before the latest extension.
