A Dhaka court has rejected the bail plea of Towhid Afridi, a content creator and son of MyTV Chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi, and ordered his imprisonment in connection with a murder case linked to the anti-discrimination movement. The case pertains to the killing of Asadul Haque Babu in the Yatrabari area of the capital.
On Saturday (August 30), after a hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas issued the order. Following the completion of a five-day remand, Towhid was produced in court, where the investigating officer, CID Police Inspector Khan Md. Erfan, requested his detention in jail. The defense lawyer argued for bail, but the prosecution opposed it. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail plea and ordered Towhid to be sent to jail.
**Background**: On August 25, the court had granted a five-day remand for Towhid in this case. He was arrested by a CID team from Barisal on the previous Sunday night. Earlier, on August 17, his father, Nasir Uddin Sathi, was arrested in Gulshan, Dhaka, and placed on a five-day remand the following day.
According to case details, during the anti-discrimination movement on August 5 of the previous year, Asadul Haque Babu was shot in the chest and right side while participating in a protest on a main road in Yatrabari. He was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. On August 30 of the same year, Asadul’s father, Joynal Abedin, filed a murder case at Yatrabari Police Station, naming 25 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Nasir Uddin is listed as accused number 22, and his son Towhid Afridi as accused number 11 in the case.
