Husband Accused of Killing Wife and Dissecting Body into 11 Pieces Flees from 10th-Floor Flat

In Chittagong’s Roufabad area, Md. Sumon Ali allegedly killed his wife, Fatema Begum, by stabbing her and dismembering her body into 11 pieces, scattering them around their flat. He then fled by breaking the grill of their 10th-floor apartment. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Sumon in Brahmanbaria’s Bijoynagar, Fulbaria area, and shared details of the incident in a press conference held on Saturday noon at RAB-7’s media center in Chittagong’s Chandgaon area.

According to the press conference, on the night of July 9, Sumon killed Fatema Begum with a sharp weapon in a flat at Roufabad’s Paharika Housing Society under Bayezid Bostami Police Station. That night, security guard Mashiur Rahman heard unusual noises from the flat and went to investigate. After 30 minutes, Sumon opened the door but gave evasive responses when questioned about the noises and suspicious activities.

RAB reported that Mashiur entered the flat and found bloodstains in various areas, blood-soaked clothes in the bathroom, and body parts in the commode. As he went downstairs to alert locals and locked the flat’s door, Sumon broke the grill and escaped. On Friday night, a joint operation by RAB-7 Chittagong, RAB-9 Sylhet, and RAB Headquarters’ intelligence wing led to Sumon’s arrest. In preliminary interrogation, Sumon revealed that he hails from Suyagazi village in Cumilla’s Sadar South, son of Sundar Ali. He married Fatema Begum 10 years ago. After working in Saudi Arabia, he returned to Bangladesh in June last year and began driving a pickup van. Frequent quarrels with his wife escalated, leading to an argument on July 9, during which he stabbed her to death using two knives.
RAB-7 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hafizur Rahman detailed the incident during the press conference. He noted that Fatema Begum’s elder brother, Mohammad Anwar Hossain, filed a murder case against Sumon at Bayezid Bostami Police Station on Thursday (Case No. 20, dated July 10, 2025). Legal proceedings against the accused are underway.
