Jubodal Leader Murder Case: Subrata Bain Remanded for 7 Days

A Dhaka court has granted a seven-day remand for Subrata Bain, alias Fateh Ali, in connection with the murder of Yubodal leader Arif Sikdar in a case filed at Hatirjheel Police Station.

On Wednesday (July 9), Subrata Bain was produced before the court. The investigating officer, Police Inspector Mohammad Mazharul Islam, requested a ten-day remand for a thorough investigation. The state supported the remand application, while the defense lawyer sought cancellation of the remand and bail for the accused. After hearing both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Abdul Wahab granted the seven-day remand. Previously, on June 23, the court approved the arrest of Subrata Bain in this case. On that day, he was virtually presented from prison for a hearing regarding his arrest. According to case details, on the night of April 19, Jubodal leader Md. Arif Sikdar was shot in front of ‘The Jhil Café’ at Noyatola Mor in Hatirjheel, Dhaka. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on April 21. Arif Sikdar was the former assistant sports secretary of Dhaka North City’s Ward 36 Yubodal unit. Arif’s sister, Rima Akter, filed a murder case at Hatirjheel Police Station against Subrata Bain’s associate Mahfuzur Rahman Bipu and nine others. The case is currently under investigation by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon Division. The other accused are Md. Yasin (19), Md. Asif Hossain (21), Md. Anik (19), Md. Miraz (19), Md. Ashik (19), Md. Ifti (24), Zafar Imam Tarafdar Montu (40), Ratan Sheikh (45), and Alif (19). On May 27, Subrata Bain and his associate Molla Masud, along with two others, were arrested by the army with weapons. The following day, a Dhaka court granted an eight-day remand for Subrata Bain in a separate case under the Arms Act filed at Hatirjheel Police Station.
