July March" Arrives in Sylhet, Sunamganj, and Moulvibazar on July 25, 2025

Sylhet, Sunamganj, and Moulvibazar, July 25, 2025– The National Citizen Party (NCP), formed under the leadership of Nahid Islam and other student leaders of the July Uprising, is bringing its nationwide "July March" to Sylhet and Sunamganj today, Friday, July 25, 2025. The following day, Saturday, the march will continue in Moulvibazar. This marks the first time NCP leaders are visiting Sylhet since the historic uprising that led to the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024.

The "July March," a month-long campaign commemorating the first anniversary of the July Uprising, aims to honor the sacrifices of the movement's martyrs and rally support for political reforms, anti-discrimination efforts, and a new constitution. The march began on July 1, 2025, with a visit to the grave of Abu Sayeed, the first martyr of the uprising, in Rangpur.

Sylhet Program: NCP leaders, including Nahid Islam, the convener of the party and a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, will arrive in Sylhet at around 5:00 PM today. The march will commence from the Central Shaheed Minar in Chouhatta, proceeding through Ambarkhana, Subidbazar, Rikabibazar, Mirzajangal, Taltala, Bandarbazar, and Zindabazar, before concluding with speeches back at the Shaheed Minar. The NCP expects around 20,000 activists and supporters to participate. Key leaders attending include Nahid Islam, Akhtar Hossain (Member Secretary), Hasnat Abdullah (Chief Organizer, Southern Region), Sarjis Alam (Chief Organizer, Northern Region), Nasiruddin Patwary (Chief Coordinator), Samantha Sharmin (Senior Joint Convener), Ariful Islam Adib (Senior Joint Convener), Tasnim Zara (Senior Joint Member Secretary), Nahida Sarwar Niva, and Abdul Hannan Masud (Senior Joint Chief Coordinator).
Sunamganj Program: On the same day, NCP leaders arrived in Sunamganj on Thursday night and are staying at the Circuit House. After performing Jumu’ah prayers at the Model Mosque, the march will begin from DS Road and conclude with a public meeting at the Traffic Point. Organizers anticipate around 15,000 participants. Abu Saleh Md. Nasim, Joint Coordinator of NCP, stated that all preparations have been completed to ensure the success of the program. The police, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) Zakir Hossain, have heightened security measures across the city to prevent any disruptions.
Moulvibazar Program: On Saturday, July 26, 2025, the NCP will hold a march and public meeting in Moulvibazar, starting at 11:00 AM from Berirpar Point. The event will feature speeches by Nahid Islam, Akhtar Hossain, Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah, Nasiruddin Patwary, Nahida Sarwar Niva, Samantha Sharmin, and Dr. Tasnim Zara. Additionally, Pritom Das, a prominent NCP leader from Sreemangal and Kamalganj, known for enduring imprisonment during the fascist regime, will be present. The march will conclude with a public interaction at Choumuhana Square in Sreemangal around 2:00 PM. Fahad Alam, the Chief Coordinator of NCP’s Moulvibazar district branch, recently held a press conference to ensure the event’s success.

The NCP’s "July March" has garnered significant public attention across Bangladesh, with the party emphasizing the need for justice, reform, and the implementation of the "July Declaration" and "July Charter." Despite facing challenges, such as the suspension of marches in Feni, Noakhali, and Lakshmipur due to a plane crash in Uttara, the NCP continues to mobilize grassroots support. The party has also condemned incidents of vandalism, such as the tearing of their posters in Sylhet, which led to the expulsion of three Sylhet City Corporation workers.
Security has been tightened in all three districts to ensure the safety of participants and prevent any untoward incidents. The NCP’s leadership remains steadfast in its mission to build a new Bangladesh, free from oppression and inequality, as articulated during their nationwide campaign.
