Milestone Tragedy: Mahiya Tasnim Succumbs to 50% Burn Injuries

The funeral and burial of Mahiya Tasnim, an eighth-grade student of Milestone School and College, were completed following her tragic death in a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crash in Uttara, Dhaka. The 13-year-old, who suffered severe burns covering 50% of her body, passed away while undergoing treatment.

The burial took place on Friday morning at 8:30 AM at a local cemetery in Joypur village, Mujibnagar Upazila, Meherpur. Mahiya, daughter of the late Engineer Mohammad Ali and Beauty Akter, resided with her mother in Uttara’s Sector 18. She was a student at Milestone School and College, where the tragic incident occurred.

According to Mahiya’s maternal grandfather, Nazrul Islam, she was critically injured with 50% of her body burned in the crash. She was admitted to the ICU of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, where she fought for her life. Unfortunately, she passed away on Thursday afternoon at around 4:30 PM. After her death, her body was first taken to her family home in Kuralgachi village, Chuadanga district, and later to her grandfather’s home in Joypur village, Mujibnagar Upazila, Meherpur, where she was laid to rest.

The untimely death of Mahiya Tasnim has cast a pall of grief over the communities of Kuralgachi and Joypur.
