Man Allegedly Hacked to Death by Elder Brother Inside Mosque Over Land Dispute

 

In a tragic incident in Bishwambharpur Upazila, Sunamganj, a man was allegedly hacked to death by his elder brother inside a mosque over a long-standing land dispute. The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Chargao village, and the accused has been detained by the police.

The deceased, identified as Majibur Rahman (60), was attacked by his elder brother, Lutfur Rahman (65), both residents of Chargao village. According to police and local sources, the two brothers had been embroiled in a prolonged dispute over land ownership. On Wednesday night, Majibur went to a nearby mosque to offer Esha prayers. Seizing the opportunity, Lutfur allegedly entered the mosque and attacked Majibur with a machete while he was praying. Majibur collapsed on the spot due to severe injuries.

Local residents rushed Majibur to Bishwambharpur Health Complex for treatment. Due to his critical condition, he was later transferred to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Bishwambharpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mokhlesur Rahman stated that no case had been filed as of Thursday morning. He confirmed that the incident stemmed from a land dispute between the brothers. Lutfur has been detained, and Majibur’s body has been sent to the morgue at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
