Mother Found Dead in DNA Test After Going Missing While Picking Up Son

The body of Afsana Priya (30), a mother who went missing while picking up her son from Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, following a fighter jet crash, has been identified through a DNA test. Her identity was confirmed on Thursday afternoon.

Afsana Priya, wife of businessman Abdul Wahab Mridha from Mediashulai area in Kaliakair Upazila, Gazipur, went missing on the day of the incident. Her son, Afsan Ohi (9), a third-grade student at the school, returned unharmed.

According to relatives, Afsana Priya accompanied her son to school on Monday morning, as she did every day. While waiting in the parents’ room, a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crashed onto the school’s field, causing a fire in one of the school buildings. Amid the chaos, parents rushed to save their children. While Afsan Ohi was found safe, Afsana Priya could not be located.
Dulal Mridha, Afsana’s brother-in-law, said the family searched extensively at the crash site and various hospitals but could not find her. On Thursday afternoon, they received news of her body and headed to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka to retrieve it.
Afsana’s uncle, Tajul Islam, stated, “The plane crashed directly on my niece, Afsana, causing her body to be severely mutilated, making identification difficult.” On Tuesday, Afsana’s parents, Abbas Uddin and Minu Begum, provided samples at CMH for DNA testing, which confirmed her identity. The family went to collect her body on Thursday afternoon.
