During a press conference held on Saturday morning at Karwan Bazar in the capital, the Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), AKM Shahidur Rahman, disclosed details of the incident. He stated that the hoax call forced an emergency landing of the flight. A thorough search of the aircraft found no explosives, confirming the threat was false.
RAB has arrested three individuals in connection with the incident. According to Rahman, initial investigations revealed that the man was traveling with his lover, which his wife and mother discovered. The mother, after gathering information from one of her son’s friends, called air traffic control with the false bomb threat to stop the trip.
On Friday, June 11, an unknown individual phoned the control tower at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, claiming a bomb was on board Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ flight BG 373, which was preparing for takeoff to Kathmandu. Security officials promptly canceled the flight and safely evacuated passengers and crew. After a two-and-a-half-hour search by the bomb disposal unit, no explosives were found, and the flight was declared safe. The Boeing 737-800 departed for Kathmandu later that evening.
