The flood situation in Feni has begun to improve, with water receding from the main Feni-Parshuram road. As of last night, Friday, around 5,000 people had left relief centers. As the water levels drop, the extent of the damage is becoming evident. Several roads damaged by the floods have disrupted vehicular movement.
According to the district administration, upazila administration, and the Water Development Board, floodwaters have started receding in all five upazilas of Feni. Although low-lying areas in 112 villages across Parshuram, Fulgazi, Chhagalnaiya, Feni Sadar, and Daganbhuiyan upazilas remain inundated, water has drained from most homes. No new villages were flooded as of Saturday.
On Saturday morning, a visit to various areas of Fulgazi revealed that water has receded from some roads, but rural roads remain submerged. Some household courtyards still have knee-deep water, with residents wading through it to move around. Many were seen drying their soaked belongings in the sun.
**Relief Advisor Visits Flood-Affected Areas**
Faruk-e-Azam, the Relief and Disaster Management Advisor of the interim government, visited the erosion-affected Napit area of Uttar Sreepur village along the Muhuri River in Fulgazi Upazila.
During his visit, he assured residents that their damaged homes would be repaired promptly.
Abul Bashar, a resident of Kalir Hat in Fulgazi, told that although floodwater did not enter his house, his courtyard remains inundated, and household items have been damaged. He said they are now trying to recover.
Karim Nessa from Purba Para, Sreepur, shared that the lower part of her tin house was damaged by the floodwater. Last year’s floods had already caused significant losses, and before they could fully recover, this year’s floods struck again. She mentioned that they lack the funds to repair their home.
As the flood situation improves, the extent of the damage is becoming clearer. Many residents are busy repairing collapsed homes. While there were no significant crops in the fields, fish farmers and hatchery owners have suffered losses due to the floods.
Bimal Das from Uttar Dhanikunda in Parshuram, whose house was completely destroyed by the erosion of the Muhuri River, told, “The sudden floods washed away my entire house. My family is now staying elsewhere. I’ve sought help from various government offices to repair my home.”
Feni’s Additional District Administrator Ismail Hossain told that the four-day floods affected 34,600 people across five upazilas. Water has receded from many homes, and as of Friday night, 5,018 people had left relief centers. The administration has allocated Tk2.35 million for the affected people across the five upazilas. Alongside the district administration, upazila executive officers are working in the field to address the situation. Repair work will begin as soon as the damage assessment is complete.
