All Involved in Mitford Murder Will Be Brought to Justice: Home Adviser

Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Home Affairs Adviser, has assured that all individuals involved in the brutal murder of Sohag (39), a scrap goods trader, in front of Mitford Hospital in the capital, will be brought under the law.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday (July 12) after inspecting the Range Reserve Force and Dhaka District Police Lines at Mill Barrack in Old Dhaka, the Home Adviser addressed the incident.

The Home Adviser stated, “This incident is deeply tragic. Such an event is unthinkable in a civilized country. Five individuals responsible for this crime have been arrested. One person was apprehended last night, and previously, RAB arrested two individuals with weapons. The Metropolitan Police have also detained two others. Additionally, the Detective Branch is actively working on the case. Everyone involved in this incident will be brought to justice.” He further emphasized, “We have become very intolerant as a society, and we must work to reduce this intolerance. Policymakers, guardians, teachers, doctors, and everyone must strive to curb such violence.” The Adviser urged the public not to take the law into their own hands, saying, “If any incident occurs, it should be reported to the law enforcement agencies, who will take appropriate action.” Addressing complaints that law enforcement agencies are not acting decisively, the Home Adviser countered, “If law enforcement wasn’t strict, how were five people arrested? In the case of the woman who made a phone call regarding the Kathmandu flight, she has been arrested, along with the person who advised her. In the Chandpur incident, the culprits have also been brought to justice. This is not indifference on the part of law enforcement. Sometimes, there may be slight delays in one or two cases, but we take immediate action in such incidents.”
