Islamabad, July 20, 2025 – Since the onset of the monsoon season in late June, Pakistan has been grappling with devastating floods and heavy rainfall, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 202 lives, including 96 children, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).Official data reveals that Punjab province has been the hardest hit, with 123 deaths reported. Additionally, 40 fatalities occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 21 in Sindh, 16 in Balochistan, and one each in Islamabad and Azad Jammu-Kashmir.
The majority of deaths were caused by collapsing houses and landslides. Government figures indicate that 118 people died due to house collapses, 30 perished in flash floods, and others lost their lives to drowning, lightning strikes, electrocution, or landslides. At least 560 people, including 182 children, have been injured.
In Rawalpindi, flash floods have caused widespread destruction, submerging areas like Dhamiyal, Hati Chowk, and Morgah. Water levels in places like Tench Bhatta and Fauji Colony have risen to roof levels, forcing residents to abandon their belongings and evacuate. Faisalabad has also faced significant damage, with 11 deaths and 60 injuries reported over just two days, primarily due to the collapse of weak structures.
