Saudi Arabia Arrests Over 23,000 Migrants in One Week

Saudi Arabia’s law enforcement agencies detained more than 23,000 migrants in a week for violating residency, labor, and border security regulations, according to a statement from the Saudi Ministry of Interior reported by *Gulf News* on Sunday.

From July 10 to 16, authorities arrested 23,167 migrants across the country in coordinated security operations. Of those, 14,525 were held for residency law violations, 5,511 for border security breaches, and 3,313 for labor law infractions. Additionally, 1,593 individuals, mostly Yemenis and Ethiopians, were caught attempting illegal entry into Saudi Arabia. The arrested migrants include 69% Ethiopians, 30% Yemenis, and others from various nations. Another 41 were apprehended while trying to exit the country illegally. Twenty-two residents were arrested for aiding violators by providing transport or shelter. Legal proceedings are ongoing against 16,441 migrants, including 14,255 men and 2,186 women. Of these, 8,622 are being processed for travel documents at their diplomatic missions, and 3,393 have received final deportation orders. So far, 10,587 migrants have been repatriated. Assisting illegal entry into Saudi Arabia carries penalties of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of 1 million Saudi Riyal. The Ministry of Interior continues to issue warnings about these violations. Saudi Arabia, home to about 34.8 million people, hosts millions of migrant workers. Local media frequently report on operations targeting illegal migrants and lawbreakers.
