Barishal, July 29, 2025 – In a tragic incident in Bakerganj Upazila, Barishal, a young man was beaten to death by his parents, who later surrendered to the police. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the Bharapasha area of Ward No. 6, Bakerganj Municipality.The deceased, Hasan Gazi (20), was the only son of Jafor Gazi (48) and Nazma Begum (40), residents of Bharapasha. According to locals, Hasan had been struggling with drug addiction for a long time and frequently assaulted his parents to extort money for drugs. The couple has two daughters, both of whom are married.
Neighbors reported that on Tuesday afternoon, Hasan caused a commotion at home, demanding 5,000 taka and damaging household items. When his father, Jafor, tried to intervene, Hasan began assaulting him. Nazma stepped in to protect her husband but was also attacked. In response, the parents beat Hasan with a pipe, leading to his death at the scene. The couple subsequently surrendered to the Bakerganj Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad of Bakerganj Police Station confirmed that Jafor Gazi and Nazma Begum arrived at the station around 4:00 PM on Tuesday, admitting they had beaten their son to death. Hasan’s body was recovered that evening and sent to the morgue at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. The body will be handed over to relatives after the procedure. Legal action is underway.
