Chinese Ambassador: China-Bangladesh-Pakistan Tripartite Initiative Not an Anti-Third Party Alliance

Dhaka, July 29, 2025 – The tripartite initiative involving China, Bangladesh, and Pakistan is not aimed at opposing any third party, and no country should have concerns about it, said Yao Wen, the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh. He made these remarks on Tuesday at a DCAB Talk organized by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) at the National Press Club.

Ambassador Yao emphasized that the initiative focuses on economic development and improving the quality of life for people in the three countries. “The tripartite discussions are centered on economic progress and prosperity. This is in no way an alliance against any third party, and no South Asian country has formally expressed any concerns about it. There is no reason for any other country to be worried,” he stated.

He further elaborated that the initiative aims to foster a developed and prosperous neighborhood while upholding the sovereignty of the involved nations. **On U.S. Tariffs:** Responding to a question about U.S. tariff policies, Ambassador Yao remarked that they contradict the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and could lead to instability in the global economy. **On Teesta Multipurpose Project:** Regarding the progress of the Teesta Multipurpose Project, the ambassador noted that China is fully prepared to implement the project, but the decision now rests with Bangladesh.
