Sanaullah Selim, the convener of the Ramu Upazila unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, has voluntarily resigned following allegations linked to a yaba (methamphetamine) looting incident. He announced his resignation through a Facebook post on Thursday, July 3.In his Facebook status, Selim wrote, “I am voluntarily resigning from the position of convener of the Ramu Upazila branch of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. Recently, I have become a victim of conspiracies and political vendettas, which are tarnishing my social and political life, pushing me toward death. Hence, I have made this decision. May my beloved organization, Chhatra Dal, prosper, and may the opportunists thrive.” The controversy stems from allegations of Selim’s involvement in the looting of 30,000 yaba tablets, coupled with accusations of inappropriate behavior toward a local journalist. An audio recording related to the incident was shared by local BNP and affiliate organization leaders on their Facebook profiles, sparking widespread debate in the district. In response, on June 28, the Upazila BNP formed a three-member investigation committee, headed by former Upazila BNP vice-president Golam Kabir Sowdagar, with instructions to submit a report within three working days. However, five days later, Selim announced his resignation. District Chhatra Dal leader Mohammadul Haque Jony stated, “Resignation is not a permanent solution. They resign today, but a few days later, they return to various positions in BNP or its affiliate organizations. While the positions of the accused Union BNP general secretary and Union Juba Dal convener have been suspended, they should be permanently expelled from the party.” Former member secretary of Upazila Chhatra Dal, Jillur Rahman, commented, “During the Awami League’s misrule, Sanaullah was known as a dedicated leader. However, I have heard that after August 5, he established a reign of terror in his union. His indecent behavior and involvement in the yaba scandal have deeply hurt the nationalist family. Our leader, former MP Kajal Bhai, remains vocal in preventing such misconduct by party members.” Faysal Kader, a member of the investigation committee, said, “Sanaullah Selim has resigned voluntarily, which is his personal decision. However, we will conduct an impartial investigation and submit our report to the senior leadership
