The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has stated that Shah Paran, in an act of revenge against his elder brother Fazr Ali, recorded a video of a woman being brutally tortured in Muradnagar, Cumilla, and spread it on social media. Shah Paran was one of the key planners of the mob created on that day. His elder brother, Fazr Ali, had previously been arrested on charges of raping the same woman.
In a press conference held today, Friday, at Karwan Bazar in the capital, RAB-11 Commander Lieutenant Colonel HM Sajjad Hossain shared these details. Shah Paran was arrested by an RAB-11 operation team on Thursday night from the Kabila Bazar area under Burichang Thana in Cumilla. During the press conference, RAB Director Sajjad Hossain said that Fazr Ali and Shah Paran had been harassing the woman for a long time. Two months before the incident, a dispute between the two brothers led to a verbal altercation and physical scuffle. During a village arbitration, Fazr Ali, the elder brother, slapped his younger brother Shah Paran. To take revenge on his elder brother, Shah Paran was looking for an opportunity. RAB further revealed that a few days after the arbitration, the woman’s mother took a loan of 50,000 taka with interest from Fazr Ali. On the day of the incident (June 26), the woman’s parents were not at home. Fazr Ali entered the woman’s bedroom around 11:30 pm under the pretext of collecting the loan interest. At the same time, Shah Paran, along with Fazr Ali’s old rival from the same village, Abul Kalam, and others named Anik, Arif, Suman, Ramzan, and 8 to 10 others, broke into the house. They subjected the woman to molestation and physical torture, recorded an obscene video, and later spread it on social media. After the incident, Shah Paran, Abul Kalam, and other accused went into hiding. On June 27, the woman filed a rape case at Muradnagar Thana. In the press conference, the RAB Director further stated that during initial interrogation, Shah Paran confessed to RAB that he orchestrated the incident to take revenge on his brother Fazr Ali due to prior enmity. The RAB-11 Commander added that the process of handing over Shah Paran to Muradnagar Thana in Cumilla is underway.
