Students Hand Over Former UP Chairman Inzamamul Haque to Police in Chittagong

In Chittagong, students associated with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement detained an Awami League leader and handed him over to the police. The incident occurred around midnight on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at a restaurant in the city’s 2 No. Gate area. The individual was subsequently taken into custody by the Panchlaish police and later transferred to the Patia police station.

The detained Awami League leader is Inzamamul Haque, also known as Jasim, who serves as the joint convener of Patia Upazila Awami League and is a former chairman of Kachuai Union Parishad in Patia. According to eyewitnesses and police sources, Inzamamul was dining at a restaurant in the 2 No. Gate area with several associates when members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement spotted him and informed the police. The Panchlaish police then arrived and took him into custody. Tawsif Imroz, a key organizer of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Chittagong, told that Inzamamul was dining at the restaurant when he was identified. He faces charges related to attacking and firing at protesters during the Anti-Discrimination Movement. After being informed, the police promptly arrested him. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchlaish Police Station, Mohammad Solaiman, confirmed to on Sunday afternoon, July 13, 2025, that Inzamamul faces a case filed on August 4, 2024, for attacking and shooting at participants in the Anti-Discrimination Movement in Patia. Following information from students, the police detained him and handed him over to the Patia Police Station. Patia Police Station OC Mohammad Nuruzzaman told that Inzamamul, an accused in the case involving the attack and shooting during the Anti-Discrimination Movement, has been sent to court.
