Sylhet Hotel Worker Murdered Over Delay in Serving Tea

A hotel worker in Sylhet was allegedly murdered over a trivial issue involving a delay in serving tea, leading to a violent altercation. The incident occurred on Sunday (July 13) morning in the Kazir Bazar area of the city.

The victim, identified as Rumon, was approximately 22 years old. According to police, around 9 AM, a night guard named Abbas visited Shapla Hotel, located near the fish market in Kazir Bazar, to have tea. A delay in serving the tea led to an argument between Abbas and Rumon. The hotel owner and bystanders intervened, calming the situation temporarily.

About an hour later, Abbas returned with several others and attacked Rumon. During the assault, Rumon was stabbed and the attackers fled. He was rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam confirmed that the perpetrators have been identified, and a police operation is underway to apprehend them. The victim’s body has been sent to the Osmani Hospital morgue for an autopsy, scheduled for Monday.
