The ongoing border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia has claimed 32 lives, with both sides reporting casualties. Cambodian soldiers were seen carrying the body of a person killed in Thai artillery fire, escalating fears of a prolonged conflict between the two Southeast Asian neighbors.
According to a report by Al Jazeera on Saturday, July 26, Cambodian authorities confirmed 12 additional deaths, bringing the total death toll to 32. Mali Sochet, spokesperson for Cambodia’s National Defense Ministry, told reporters that seven civilians and five soldiers were among the newly confirmed casualties. Additionally, one Cambodian civilian was killed in a rocket attack by Thailand on Thursday.
Citing officials from Cambodia’s Preah Vihear province, *The Khmer Times* reported that approximately 20,000 residents have been evacuated from Cambodia’s northern border with Thailand. Thai authorities stated that over 138,000 people have been relocated from Thailand’s border areas, with around 300 shelters established. On Friday, Thailand declared martial law in eight districts along the Cambodian border.
