BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has commented that there is a noticeable trend of systematically denying the Liberation War. He emphasized that there is no compromise regarding the Liberation War.
He made these remarks on Monday (July 14) at a memorial meeting for Gano Forum President and Freedom Fighter Mostafa Mohsin Montu, organized by Gano Forum at the Engineering Institute in the capital.
The BNP Secretary General stated that those who did not believe in the independence achieved through the 1971 Liberation War are making statements that raise questions about whether the Liberation War was fought in 1971.
Addressing allegations of a conspiracy to delay the election, Mirza Fakhrul said, “I want to state unequivocally that we are very optimistic. We have seen discussions in London indicating the possibility of an election by February.”
He added that BNP is regularly sending representatives to all commissions. However, a certain group is claiming that BNP is against reforms.
The memorial meeting was presided over by Gano Forum’s Emeritus President Dr. Kamal Hossain. Speakers included BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Bangladesh JSD President Sharif Nurul Ambia, Revolutionary Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haq, Gono Songhoti Andolon Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki, CPB General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince, BASAD General Secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz, and Bangladesh Mohila Parishad President Fauzia Moslem, among others.
