Warning Against Scams: Ministry of Religious Affairs Issues Alert on Hajj Refund Process

The process of refunding unspent funds from the 2025 government Hajj package has begun, with the money being transferred directly to pilgrims’ bank accounts via Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT/BEFTN). The Ministry of Religious Affairs issued a warning on Wednesday, July 16, urging pilgrims to avoid falling into scams related to these refunds.

In a press release, the ministry clarified that the unspent funds from the 2025 government Hajj package are being returned to pilgrims’ bank accounts through EFT/BEFTN. Pilgrims are advised not to share their bank account details, credit or debit card information, or details related to mobile financial services like Nagad or bKash with anyone.

**4,978 Pilgrims to Receive Refunds** A total of 76,768 pilgrims have returned to the country after performing Hajj this year. On Sunday, July 13, during a press conference at the Secretariat, Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain announced that due to lower house rental costs and service charges compared to the allocated budget, some funds from the Hajj package remained unspent. These surplus funds will be refunded to each pilgrim under government management.
The adviser stated that out of 5,000 pilgrims under government arrangements, 4,978 will receive refunds totaling BDT 82,890,183. Each pilgrim will receive a minimum of BDT 5,315, with the maximum refund amounting to BDT 53,624.
