Jack Dorsey, co-founder and former CEO of Twitter (now X), is introducing a new messaging app called Bitchat to compete with the popular messaging platform WhatsApp. This unique app operates entirely on a Bluetooth-based system, eliminating the need for an internet connection, centralized servers, phone numbers, or email addresses.
In a recent post on X, Dorsey announced that Bitchat is still in its testing phase, and interested users can try its beta version through an app called TestFlight. Additionally, the app’s white paper has been published on GitHub, detailing its functionality, objectives, and technical framework to help users understand how it works.
A key feature of Bitchat is its use of bridge devices, which connect multiple Bluetooth clusters to expand the network. Messages are stored only on users’ devices, automatically deleted by default, and not sent to any central server, reflecting Dorsey’s long-standing commitment to privacy and resistance to censorship.
