Dhaka, August 16, 2025: Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman emphasized unity and equality, stating that Bangladesh is a country for all, where there will be no discrimination based on religion, ethnicity, or community. Speaking at the inauguration of the Janmashtami procession at Dhaka’s Dhakeshwari National Temple on Saturday afternoon, he highlighted the centuries-long tradition of harmonious coexistence among Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, hill tribes, Bengalis, and other ethnic groups in Bangladesh.
Addressing the Hindu community, General Waker-Uz-Zaman assured, “We will always stand by you. The armed forces are deployed across the country. We will work together with you. Live in this country with confidence, celebrate your religious festivals with joy. We will share in your happiness and provide all necessary support when needed.”
Expressing hope for a peaceful and harmonious environment, he said, “On this day, let us pledge to maintain an atmosphere of unity and harmony. This country belongs to everyone, and we will live together peacefully and beautifully.”
The Army Chief also expressed his desire for the ideals of Lord Krishna, celebrated during Janmashtami, to spread across the nation. “Based on these ideals, we will live together and move forward,” he added.
Reflecting on his personal connection to the area, General Waker-Uz-Zaman shared, “I grew up in the Azimpur-Paltan area, a place filled with many cherished memories.”
The event was attended by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan, and other dignitaries.
