Attack at U.S. Army Base in Georgia, Suspect Detained

An attack involving gunfire occurred at Fort Stewart Army Base in Georgia, USA, leading to the detention of the assailant. On Wednesday morning (August 6), a soldier opened fire with his personal weapon, prompting a temporary lockdown of the base.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, five individuals were injured in the incident. Two of the injured were taken to the Memorial Health Hospital in Savannah, while the remaining three are receiving treatment at an army hospital. All victims are reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Sergeant Cornelius Redford, is a resident of Jacksonville, Florida. He is an active-duty soldier assigned to the Second Brigade at Fort Stewart. Redford, who joined the army in 2018 as an Automated Logistics Specialist, has no prior combat experience or recorded military offenses. He is currently being held in a pre-trial detention facility.

Brigadier General John Lubas of the U.S. Army stated that the soldier used a personal firearm to fire indiscriminately. Fellow soldiers quickly intervened to stop the attack, and Redford was formally detained approximately 40 minutes after the shooting began. The motive behind his attack on colleagues remains unclear.
