Continuous Rainfall Causes Road Subsidence and Waterlogging in Chattogram

Due to incessant rainfall since Wednesday night (August 6), a section of the road near the Starship factory in the No. 2 Gate-Oxygen area of Chattogram has subsided, halting vehicular movement and causing long traffic jams. The persistent rain has led to severe waterlogging in various parts of the city, significantly reducing the number of vehicles on the roads. As a result, city residents are facing immense difficulties on the last working day of the week.

On Thursday (August 7) morning, Bijon Roy, the officer-in-charge at the PBO Ambagan Weather Office, told Dhaka Post that 81 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours until 9 AM. Additionally, 24 millimeters of rain was recorded between 6 AM and 9 AM in just three hours.

The continuous downpour has caused waterlogging in areas such as Rahattarpool, Bahaddarhat, GEC, Muradpur, Agrabad, and Chakbazar. Homes and shops in these areas have been inundated, exacerbating the residents' woes. Mamunul Haque, a resident of Rahattarpool, said, "It has been raining since last night, and the roads are submerged. People heading to work are carrying their shoes in hand. Vehicles are scarce, and even when available, the fares are exorbitant. This suffering has been a part of our lives since childhood."
