The Bangladesh cricket team has once again faced a decline in the ICC One Day International (ODI) rankings, dropping from 9th to 10th position among the top 20 teams. The latest ICC rankings update, released on August 10, 2025, reflects this downgrade.
For over a decade and a half, Bangladesh had maintained a single-digit ranking in ODIs. However, in May 2025, they slipped to 10th for the first time since October 2006. Last month, a victory in an ODI against Sri Lanka briefly lifted Bangladesh back to 9th, but the latest update shows them overtaken by the West Indies, who now hold the 9th spot.
Pakistan also faced a decline, dropping from 4th to 5th, with Sri Lanka taking their place. These are the only changes in the top 10. The West Indies currently have 78 rating points, while Bangladesh have 77. Sri Lanka and Pakistan hold 103 and 102 rating points, respectively. India lead the rankings with 124 points, followed by New Zealand with 109.
The ICC ODI rankings are crucial for securing a spot in the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will feature 14 teams. Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe are guaranteed participation, leaving 12 spots, eight of which will be determined by rankings and four through qualifiers. To secure direct qualification, Bangladesh must be among the top eight teams (excluding South Africa and Zimbabwe) by March 31, 2027. Currently, South Africa are ranked 6th, and Zimbabwe 11th.
Bangladesh are also ranked 10th in T20I rankings and 9th in Test rankings.
