A Bangladeshi man was arrested at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on charges of attempting to vandalize property. The detained individual, identified as Mohammad Ashraful from Narayanganj, Bangladesh, had arrived in Kolkata from Singapore on an IndiGo flight in the evening. He was scheduled to take a connecting flight to Dhaka. While waiting in the international transit lounge, Ashraful suddenly attempted to smash the glass partition in an apparent effort to exit the terminal, as reported by *India Today*.[](https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/bangladeshi-man-tries-break-glass-kolkata-netaji-subhash-chandra-bose-airport-terminal-detained-2765107-2025-08-02)

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel promptly detained him. During interrogation, Ashraful made incoherent statements, raising concerns among security officials about his mental state. He was subsequently handed over to the NSCBI Airport Police Station, and Bidhannagar Police formally arrested him. Authorities have confirmed that Ashraful had been living and working in Singapore. Further investigations are underway to determine the motives behind his actions. Meanwhile, over the past year, anti-Bangladeshi sentiment has reportedly increased in India. The situation has escalated to the point where Bengali-speaking individuals in Kolkata are being harassed with the label of “Bangladeshi.” Several Indian citizens have allegedly been forcibly deported to Bangladesh, sparking tensions in West Bengal.
