Best Drug Recovery Officer’ SI Withdrawn Over Drug Trafficking Allegations in Chittagong’s Lohagara

Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamal Hossain, previously honored as the ‘Best Drug Recovery Officer,’ has been withdrawn from Lohagara Police Station in Chittagong following allegations of involvement in drug trafficking. He was reassigned to the Chittagong Police Lines on Friday evening around 7:30 PM.

On April 24, SI Kamal Hossain was awarded the title of ‘Best Drug Recovery Officer’ at the monthly welfare meeting of the district police, held at the Chittagong Police Lines. The award was presented by Chittagong’s Police Superintendent Md. Saiful Islam Santu, who handed him a crest in recognition of his efforts.

The allegations surfaced after a search operation conducted by former leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway on Thursday night. During the search, they seized a private car carrying 48 bottles of Phensedyl and handed over three individuals, including the contraband, to the army. The three were later arrested in connection with a case. One of the arrested, Ramiz Uddin, is reportedly a source for the Lohagara Police Station. Former leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement claimed that SI Kamal Hossain was involved in the incident. The search operation was recorded, and the footage was shared on Facebook by the former student leaders, with some broadcasting it live. The video shows 30 to 40 people present during the search. In the footage, Ramiz Uddin is seen giving a statement, claiming that SI Kamal Hossain provided the Phensedyl bottles.
Confirming the withdrawal, Inspector (Investigation) Robiul Islam Khan of Lohagara Police Station told the media that an investigation into SI Kamal Hossain’s involvement is underway at the higher levels of the police
