BNP Leader Attacked by Yub League Leader in Feni

In Feni, a BNP leader was seriously injured after being attacked by Nazrul Islam Shamim, the vice-president of Amjadhat Union Yub League, and his associates. The incident occurred on Wednesday (August 27) morning.

The victim, Abul Kalam (55), is a former general secretary of Amjadhat Union Chhatra Dal and currently a member of Fulgazi Upazila BNP. He is receiving treatment at Fulgazi Upazila Health Complex.

According to local sources, a motorcycle theft recently took place in the Amjadhat area. After identifying a suspect through CCTV footage, a meeting was organized on Wednesday morning with local dignitaries, including Abul Kalam. During the meeting, the identified thief revealed the names of his accomplices. When the thief mentioned a relative of Yub League leader Shamim, he became enraged and began beating the thief. When Abul Kalam intervened to stop the assault, Shamim attacked him with a sharp object, causing severe head injuries. Locals rescued Kalam and admitted him to the hospital in critical condition. The incident has sparked tension in Amjadhat Union and surrounding areas. Local BNP leaders, activists, and residents have strongly condemned the attack and demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators. Bahar Uddin Mazumdar, General Secretary of Amjadhat Union BNP, told Kalbela, "Even in these changing times, Awami League and Yub League continue to attack BNP activists. This is truly unfortunate." He demanded the swift arrest of those involved. Abul Hossain, Member Secretary of Fulgazi Upazila BNP, told Kalbela, "Kalam was a former secretary of the Union Chhatra Dal. I strongly condemn this heinous attack. We urge the administration to take prompt legal action against those responsible."
Fulgazi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Lutfor Rahman said the identified thief, Delowar Hossain (33), son of Belal Hossain from Uttar Dharmapur village, has been arrested and sent to court. Regarding the assault, he stated, "I have heard about the altercation, but no formal complaint has been filed yet. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received. The police are working on the matter."
