Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, has stated that if the BNP forms the government in the future, its first priority will be to end the culture of enforced disappearances. He made these remarks on Friday (August 29) during a discussion organized by Mayer Daak at the Bangla Academy to mark International Day of the Disappeared.
He said, “From 2009 to the present, 1,850 people have been victims of enforced disappearances, of whom 350 are still missing. The BNP will work to ensure that no one has to stand on the streets holding photos of their loved ones, searching for them.” He also accused the fascist Awami League government of orchestrating disappearances to cling to power indefinitely.
Addressing the issue of the election roadmap, Salahuddin Ahmed noted that certain groups are attempting to create divisions among political parties. He said, “Some are expressing differences of opinion regarding the election, while others have started conspiracies by rejecting the commission’s roadmap, claiming it cannot ensure a fair election.”
He further emphasized that a fair election would lead to the election of accountable public representatives, fostering a culture of accountability. He called for unity to work for the welfare of the country and its people.
