Dhaka, August 5, 2025: Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus announced that the ‘July Declaration’ will be incorporated into the schedule of the reformed constitution under the government elected in the upcoming election, granting constitutional recognition to the mass uprising. Additionally, legal protection will be provided to the activists involved in the movement.
On Tuesday afternoon (August 5), Dr. Yunus delivered the ‘July Declaration’ at an event held at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.
Dr. Yunus stated that appropriate state and constitutional recognition will be given to the student-people’s mass uprising of July-August 2024, and the declaration will be enshrined in the schedule of the reformed constitution under the next elected government. He further assured that legal protection would be extended to the activists of the July Mass Uprising.
He highlighted that during the Awami League regime, political leaders, activists, students, and youth with dissenting views faced brutal persecution. The monopolistic party-based appointments and quota-based discrimination in government jobs fueled widespread resentment among students, job seekers, and citizens. Additionally, severe oppression of opposition political parties and organizations led to prolonged public outrage, prompting the people to engage in a sustained anti-fascist struggle through all legitimate means.
Dr. Yunus further noted that the declaration was formulated to reflect the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh, who emerged victorious in the mass uprising on August 5, 2024. He also mentioned that a consensus has been reached among political parties regarding the state and constitutional recognition of the declaration.
Several top leaders of various political parties were present on stage with Professor Yunus during the event.
On the occasion, Professor Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to address the nation at 8:20 PM. The speech will be broadcast simultaneously on Bangladesh Television (BTV), BTV News, and Bangladesh Betar.
