Chittagong Auto-Rickshaw Drivers Vandalize Police Box Over Vehicle Seizure, Two Detained

In Chittagong’s Khulshi area, enraged battery-operated auto-rickshaw drivers vandalized a traffic police box in response to the seizure of their vehicles. The incident occurred around 7:00 PM on Wednesday at the Jhautala Railgate area. No injuries were reported, but the traffic police department stated that various equipment from the police box was stolen. Two individuals have been detained in connection with the incident.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, the Khulshi police seized battery-operated auto-rickshaws from Zakir Hossain Road around 4:00 PM. Later, at around 7:00 PM, a group of angry auto-rickshaw drivers took to the streets and vandalized the traffic police box.

Nesar Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner (Traffic-North) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, told Prothom Alo that the auto-rickshaw drivers vandalized the police box in protest of the vehicle seizures. Preparations are underway to file a case regarding the incident, and two individuals have been detained.

When contacted, Khulshi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Aftab Hossain said that inquiries are being made about the detained individuals, and legal action will be taken accordingly.
