Chittagong Port’s NCT Sets New Record in Single-Day Container Handling

The New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chittagong Port has set a new record for the highest single-day container handling, achieved by the Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL).

According to the Navy-controlled organization, from 8 AM on Thursday, August 28, to 8 AM on Friday, August 29, a total of 5,019 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) were handled at NCT in a continuous 24-hour period. This included 2,101 TEUs of import containers and 2,918 TEUs of export containers, marking the highest single-day handling record at the port to date.

Since taking over as the operator of NCT’s berths 2, 3, 4, and 5 on July 7, CDDL has significantly increased the container handling rate. CDDL officials attribute this achievement to skilled manpower, coordinated management, and the application of modern methods, enabling faster operations from the ship point to the delivery gate. Data shows that from August 1 to August 28, a total of 109,217 TEUs were handled across NCT’s four berths, averaging 3,903 TEUs per day—a 40% increase compared to previous records.
An analysis published on August 26 revealed that in the first 49 days of CDDL’s operations, 174,931 TEUs were handled, compared to 119,276 TEUs by the previous operator during a similar period. This reflects a remarkable 47% increase in container handling in just one and a half months
