Dhaka Abahani’s AFC Challenge League Dream Ends in Play-Off Defeat

Dhaka Abahani’s hopes of reaching the main stage of the AFC Challenge League were shattered after a 0-2 defeat to Kyrgyzstan’s debutant club FC Muras United in a home play-off match at the National Stadium. With this victory, Muras United secured their place in the main round in their first-ever appearance in the competition.

Despite an aggressive start from Muras United, the hot and humid weather slowed their momentum, leading to a goalless first half where both teams exchanged attacks but failed to score. Dhaka Abahani fielded Mali’s Sureman Diabaté, along with local players Sheikh Morsalin, Al Amin, and debutant Syed Kazem Shah Kirmari. Though Diabaté was not fully fit, his experience helped him compete against Muras United’s robust defenders.

In the sixth minute, Abahani escaped danger when Oleg Marchuk’s shot from Aligulov’s cross went wide. In the 14th minute, Sheikh Morsalin’s volley hit Muras United’s goalkeeper Rachov and went out. Goalkeeper Mitul Marma made a brilliant save in the 22nd minute to keep Abahani in the game. Despite some coordinated attacks from Al Amin and Diabaté before the break, Abahani couldn’t find the net. The breakthrough came just three minutes into the second half (48th minute) when Andrii Batsula’s precise cross from the left found Atai Zhumashev, who headed the ball past Mitul Marma, giving Muras United a 1-0 lead. In the 72nd minute, Morsalin’s shot was deflected by a defender. In stoppage time (90+2), Zhumashev capitalized on a mistake by Kamrul Islam, stealing the ball and firing a powerful shot from inside the box to score his second goal and seal a 2-0 victory for Muras United. This result marked the end of Dhaka Abahani’s AFC Challenge League campaign in the play-off stage, while Muras United advanced to the main round.
