The Election Commission (EC) has finalized the draft roadmap for the upcoming national parliamentary election, outlining tasks across 24 key areas. Sources indicate that the draft will be published once it receives approval. Additionally, the EC has announced that the draft list of polling stations will be published on September 10.
According to discussions with officials at various levels of the commission, the EC has devised a work plan to undertake various activities leading up to the announcement of the election schedule for the 13th national parliamentary election. These activities include updating the voter list, holding dialogues with political parties, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders, publishing a supplementary voter list before the schedule announcement, registering political parties, formulating policies for election observers and journalists, and preparing manuals, guidelines, posters, and voter IDs. The EC has also formed committees to ensure the use of transparent ballot boxes and other election materials.
On another note, steps are being taken to simplify National ID (NID) services, including resolving complexities for expatriate Bangladeshis. The EC has advised vigilance regarding fake Bangladeshi passport holders. To facilitate voting rights for expatriates, the EC has introduced a postal ballot system, enabling even those with expired passports to cast their votes.
