DUCSU Election: Demand for Drug-Free Leadership Through Mandatory Dope Testing

Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election candidate for the Social Service Secretary post, AB Zubayer, representing a four-member partial panel, has demanded mandatory dope testing for candidates to ensure a drug-free leadership.

The demand was raised during a press conference held on Sunday (August 24) at the university’s Madhur Canteen.

During the press conference, AB Zubayer presented several demands centered around DUCSU to ensure student welfare. The demands include: - Establishing central laboratories at Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, Kabi Jasimuddin Hall, and Sheikh Mujib Hall. - Setting up centers for Kuwait-Maitree Hall and Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research. - Taking immediate action against candidates who have violated the code of conduct from the nomination collection phase to the present. - Allowing voting with any valid university ID card instead of specifying a particular ID for voting. - Permitting candidates to use their well-known nicknames alongside their original names. - Including candidates’ photographs alongside their names and ballot numbers on the ballot paper. - Protecting female student candidates from harassment and cyberbullying on social media. - Ensuring dope testing to prevent drug-addicted individuals from being elected to leadership positions. Regarding security measures, Central Member Secretary Ashik Khan stated that outsiders continue to use the university campus like a park, and the administration has failed to take action. He warned that as the election approaches, this issue could pose a threat to the electoral process. He further added that fascist teachers involved in attacks during the uprising remain in their positions and are likely to be assigned responsibilities in the DUCSU election. He emphasized that a fair election is not possible while these teachers remain in their posts and called for their swift prosecution.
The press conference was attended by Central Literature and Culture Secretary Musaddik Ali Ibne Muhammad and Central Member Secretary Abdur Rahman Al Fahad.
