Tel Aviv: The Israeli military is investigating whether a new type of missile was used in an attack launched by Yemen’s armed forces. The missile reportedly bypassed Israel’s defense systems and landed near Tel Aviv.
According to a report published on Saturday by Ynet News, the website of Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth, the Israeli Air Force is analyzing a missile that was fired from Yemen the previous day and landed “near Tel Aviv.” The investigation is also exploring whether the missile carried "cluster munitions."
The Israeli media outlet released a video showing a missile breaking apart in mid-air. The report stated that the projectile in the footage was clearly launched by Yemen’s armed forces, though the Israeli government is still reviewing the video.
On Friday, Yemen’s armed forces announced multiple new attacks on Israel, targeting Ben Gurion Airport, a military site in Tel Aviv, and another sensitive target in Ashkelon, located 50 kilometers (31 miles) south of Tel Aviv.
The missile under examination has been described by Yemen’s forces as a “Palestinian-2” ballistic missile.
