Unresolved Issues of 1971, Including Apology, Resolved Twice, Says Pakistan's Deputy PM

Following a meeting with Bangladesh’s Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar addressed the media. When asked about unresolved issues related to the 1971 Liberation War, including the genocide, Dar stated that the matters between Bangladesh and Pakistan have been resolved on two occasions. He referred to the tripartite agreement of 1974 and former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf’s expression of regret during his visit in 2002 as resolutions to these issues.

Dar further remarked, “Islam teaches us to purify our hearts. You should purify your hearts. I believe we need to work together, as a bright future lies ahead of us.”

He also informed that six agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed during the meeting, which will strengthen bilateral relations. Both Dhaka and Islamabad are working to elevate economic and commercial ties to new heights.
