Juba Dal Leader Killed, One Injured in Rival Attack in Pabna

In Pabna, a Juba Dal leader named Mehedi Masud, also known as Pavel (50), was killed in a stabbing attack by rivals over a dispute regarding local dominance. The incident also left another individual, Sajib Molla (40), injured. He was given initial treatment at Pabna General Hospital and later admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

The attack occurred on Saturday night, August 23, 2025, in Islam-pur village of Goyeshpur Union, Pabna Sadar. Mehedi Masud, son of the late Muslem Uddin from the same village, was the former joint general secretary of Goyeshpur Union Juba Dal.

Pabna District Juba Dal Convener Elias Ahmed confirmed the victim’s party affiliation, stating that Mehedi Masud was a dedicated leader who protested against drug-related activities and terrorism in the area. He believes these actions may have led to his killing. Elias Ahmed told Prothom Alo, “We strongly condemn and protest this murder and demand the swift arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.”[](https://www.prothomalo.com/bangladesh/district/p5kh3swc57) According to locals and eyewitnesses, Mehedi Masud was vocal against drugs and terrorism, which led to ongoing conflicts with a local group. On Saturday night around 10 PM, an altercation with rivals escalated into an attack where Mehedi and Sajib were stabbed indiscriminately. Locals rushed them to Pabna General Hospital, where doctors declared Mehedi dead. Due to Sajib’s critical condition, he was transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital after initial treatment.
Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdus Salam said the victim’s body was recovered and sent to Pabna General Hospital’s morgue for autopsy. Preliminary investigations suggest the killing stemmed from prior disputes, including Mehedi’s leadership in forming a madrasa committee and his opposition to drugs, which angered a rival group. The matter is under investigation, and a case is being prepared
