Effigy of GM Quader Burned in Front of His Residence

In protest of the attack on Nurul Haque Nur, President of Gono Odhikar Parishad and former VP of DUCSU, the July Revolutionary Alliance burned an effigy of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader in front of his residence in Uttara, Dhaka, on Saturday (August 30) afternoon.

The protest saw the participation of over a hundred leaders and activists from the organization. During the event, they raised slogans condemning the attack on Nur and demanded the prompt arrest of those responsible.

Meanwhile, Rashed Khan, General Secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, demanded a ban on the Jatiya Party (JaPa) within the next 48 hours during a press conference held on Saturday (August 30) in front of the party’s office. He presented three demands: the formation of a probe committee to investigate the previous day’s incident, the resignation of the Home Advisor for failing to prevent the attack on party leaders and activists, and the banning of the Jatiya Party within 48 hours. The interim government also issued a statement regarding the attack on Nurul Haque Nur. The statement, released on Saturday (August 30) by the Chief Advisor’s press wing, assured that no one involved in the attack would escape accountability. The statement condemned the brutal attack on Nur, a key leader of the July mass uprising and a prominent advocate for democracy, justice, and people’s rights. The interim government views this violence not only as an attack on Nur but also as an assault on the spirit of the democratic movement that unites the nation in its historic struggle for justice and accountability. The interim government assured the public that a thorough and impartial investigation would be conducted with utmost priority. Regardless of influence or status, no one involved will be spared from accountability, and justice will be served transparently and swiftly. A specialized medical board has been formed to monitor the treatment of Nur and other injured party members, with the government committed to ensuring the highest standard of medical care. If necessary, they will be sent abroad for advanced treatment at state expense.
