Eight Arrested in Dhaka for Robbery Posing as RAB Personnel

Dhaka, August 3, 2025: Shahbagh Police have arrested eight individuals in connection with a daring robbery near the Secretariat Metro Station in Dhaka. The suspects, disguised as Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel, attempted to abduct Ranjun Chandra Singha and rob him of a bag containing Tk 4 lakh and 11 bhori of gold ornaments.

According to Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Ramna Division, the incident occurred on Monday around 2:55 PM. Ranjun Chandra Singha was walking towards the Secretariat Metro Station when three to four individuals in RAB uniforms attempted to forcibly take him into a white microbus. To escape, Singha threw his bag containing cash and gold onto the road. The robbers pushed him aside, grabbed the bag, and fled the scene.

Following the incident, a case was filed, and Shahbagh Police, with the aid of information technology, conducted a raid on Thursday morning at 8:00 AM in the Shahbagh area. The arrested individuals are Mintu Haldar (42), Nazmul Hasan (40), Nirmal Haldar (37), Salauddin (35), Delwar Hossain Sikder (55), Syed Shamim Hossain (45), Pabitra Pal (38), and Balram Chandra Pal (37).
During the operation, police recovered RAB uniforms, badges, caps, 11 mobile phones, two toy pistols, and two pairs of handcuffs used in the crime. DC Masud Alam revealed that the suspects are part of an organized robbery gang that targets gold traders in Dhaka’s Tantibazar gold market. They follow their targets, block their path at opportune locations, and rob them while posing as RAB or Detective Branch (DB) personnel.
