Rangpur, August 9, 2025: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has reiterated that the Election Commission will maintain strict neutrality in the upcoming 13th general election, neither supporting nor opposing any political party. Speaking to journalists in Rangpur on Saturday morning, he emphasized the commission’s commitment to serving the 180 million people of Bangladesh.
“Voting is not just a civic duty but a matter of conscience,” the CEC stated, underscoring the importance of public participation in the electoral process. He acknowledged the erosion of public trust in the election system, noting that encouraging voter turnout remains a significant challenge.
Addressing concerns about misinformation, Nasir Uddin highlighted the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) to spread misleading information on social media. He assured that the Election Commission is actively working to counter this issue.
Reflecting on irregularities in the previous election, the CEC vowed to take action against presiding officers responsible for any misconduct. He reaffirmed the commission’s dedication to ensuring a transparent and smooth electoral process.
Commenting on the current law and order situation, Nasir Uddin acknowledged it as a challenge but expressed optimism that conditions would improve as the election approaches. “When the state, government, and political parties become one, everything collapses together,” he cautioned, emphasizing the need for an impartial electoral process.
