Female Constable Alleges Rape by Colleague in Dhaka Police Barracks

Dhaka, August 22, 2025 – A female constable at South Keraniganj Police Station in Dhaka has accused her colleague, Constable Safiur Rahman, of raping her repeatedly over five months inside the station’s barracks, prompting an investigation by the Dhaka District Police. Both the complainant and the accused have been attached to the police lines as the probe is underway.

The female constable alleges that Safiur Rahman entered her room in the barracks on the second day of Eid-ul-Fitr during Ramadan and raped her while she was alone. She further claimed that he recorded the assault on his phone and used the video to intimidate her into enduring repeated assaults. On August 19, she filed a complaint with Inspector Al Amin, the investigation officer at South Keraniganj Police Station, but no immediate action was taken. The victim alleged that Inspector Al Amin, who hails from the same area as the accused, initially ignored her complaint. When approached by Somoy News, Al Amin reportedly attempted to flee upon seeing the camera but later denied the allegations against him.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of South Keraniganj Police Station, Syed Mohammad Akhtar Hossain, claimed that officers and staff at the station were aware of a romantic relationship between the two constables. However, the Dhaka District Police issued a statement emphasizing that the Bangladesh Police is a professional and disciplined force. It stated that any allegations against its members are thoroughly investigated, and departmental or legal actions are taken if the accused is found guilty. “If the accused is proven guilty in this case, both departmental and legal measures will be enforced,” the statement added. In a separate case, a court in Saghatta, Gaibandha, ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to probe a murder case filed by Rikta Begum, the mother of slain college student and Islami Chhatra Shibir leader Siju, against 12 police personnel, including Saghatta Police Station’s OC Badsha Alam, and three others. The order was issued by Judge Papri Barua of the Saghatta Amli Court on Thursday.
