Former Minister Latif Siddique Taken to DB Office for Questioning

Former Minister Latif Siddique, along with several Awami League leaders, was detained by police and taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office for questioning following a tense situation at an event organized by the new platform of freedom fighters, ‘Manch 71’. The incident occurred around 12 PM on Thursday, August 28, at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU).

Confirming the matter, Shahbagh Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Monsur stated that Latif Siddique and others were brought to the DB office for interrogation. When asked whether they would be formally arrested, he said, “Details will be known after the questioning at the DB office. I cannot comment at this moment.”

According to reports, the situation escalated at the DRU during a roundtable meeting titled “Our Great War of Independence and the Constitution of Bangladesh,” organized by ‘Manch 71’. The event was set to feature Dr. Kamal Hossain, former president of Gono Forum, as the chief guest. However, a group of people surrounded Latif Siddique, labeling him an “Awami League collaborator” and raising various slogans. Mohammad Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Ramna Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), stated that Latif Siddique and his associates were taken into police custody to protect them from potential mob violence. Further details are awaited as the interrogation continues at the DB office.
